When you order from DDCD, you’re not choosing off-the-shelf products - you’re investing in craftsmanship, precision, and purpose. Every piece we create is hand-sewn, measured to spec, and carefully finished in our in-house workroom. But what does that process actually look like?

In this post, we take you inside our custom workroom process - so you can see exactly how your drapes, shades, pillows, and cushions come to life.

The Custom Workroom Process - From Fabric to Finishing

At DDCD, creating custom window treatments and soft furnishings isn’t just production - it’s a craft. Our custom workroom process is built on precision, experience, and a deep respect for the materials we work with. Every drape, shade, cushion, and pillow is made by hand in our dedicated workroom using time-honored techniques and designer-level attention to detail.

From your first consultation to the final stitch, here’s how we bring your vision to life.

Step 1 - Consultation & Measurements

Whether you’re a homeowner or an interior designer, the process begins with understanding your space. We review:

  • Your window or furniture dimensions

  • The function of the product (light filtering, decorative, support, etc.)

  • Design preferences, hardware needs, and ideal materials

For complex shapes or installations, we may recommend templates or offer guidance on how to measure correctly.

Step 2 - Fabric & Trim Selection

We help you choose from our curated fabric library — or you can supply your own material (COM). From velvets and linens to sheers and blackout linings, we ensure the selected fabric suits both style and performance.

You can also add:

  • Trim and piping

  • Decorative banding

  • Custom embroidery or monograms

  • Lining types (interlined, blackout, etc.)

Step 3 - Patterning & Cutting

Every order is drafted and cut by hand or using precision tools, depending on the fabric and design. We account for pattern matching, pleats, hems, seams, and projection — ensuring a perfect fit and balanced visual flow.

Step 4 - Sewing & Assembly

This is where our craftsmanship shines. Our skilled workroom team sews, folds, and assembles your order using proven techniques:

  • Drapery pleats and lining

  • Roman shade folds and mounting

  • Cushions with boxed or knife edges, zippers, and welts

  • Pillows with filled inserts, trim, and invisible zippers

Every seam is pressed and checked for quality.

Step 5 - Quality Control

Before your piece leaves the workroom, we inspect every stitch, edge, and fold to ensure:

  • The fabric is clean and undamaged

  • All hardware and fastenings are included

  • The final size matches your order specs

  • The finish meets our standards (and yours)

If it’s not perfect - it doesn’t leave.

Step 6 - Packaging & Delivery

We package each order with care — folded or rolled to reduce creases, labeled for easy installation, and shipped with supporting materials if needed. For trade accounts and designers, we also offer private-label packaging.
